Mohammed Deif, also known as Mohammad Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, has been a key figure in Hamas for over two decades. Often referred to as “the Guest” due to his elusive nature, Deif has been a primary target for Israeli forces, implicated in numerous attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel. Despite multiple assassination attempts, he has survived and continued to lead Hamas’ military operations.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have yet to confirm whether Deif was among those killed in the strike. However, they reported the death of Rafah Salama, the commander of Hamas’ Khan Younis brigade. Israeli officials described the importance of targeting Deif, naming him as a mastermind behind many of Hamas’ operations and a significant threat to Israeli security.
The aftermath of the strike shows extensive damage and significant casualties, with images revealing a large crater and widespread destruction in the area. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation aimed to advance Israel’s goal of dismantling Hamas and sending a strong message to Iran and its proxies.
