An Israeli airstrike targeted the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, which the Israeli military claims was being used as a Hamas command center.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency said the strike, carried out early Sunday, targeted Hamas operatives allegedly using the hospital to plan attacks. According to the military, precision weapons and aerial surveillance were used to minimize civilian casualties. Warnings were also issued to evacuate the facility prior to the strike.

Hospital staff confirmed that prior to the attack, they received a call from someone claiming to be Israeli security, warning them to evacuate.
The Diocese of Jerusalem, which runs the hospital, also confirmed that all patients, employees, and displaced people were ordered to leave the hospital about 20 minutes before the strike. One child, previously injured, died during the evacuation.
The airstrike reportedly destroyed the emergency and reception departments and caused damage to nearby buildings.
The Diocese said the hospital is now out of service. Gaza’s health ministry said the patients were being redirected to other hospitals.
The Al-Ahli Hospital had been attacked multiple times since the war began in October 2023. The World Health Organization said 33 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals have been damaged since the war began.
Later Sunday, Israel also struck a Hamas site in Deir al-Balah. The IDF said Hamas operatives were using the location. Palestinian media reported three deaths in that strike.
