Israeli forces struck the Haziz power plant, allegedly run by the Houthis, south of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Sunday morning, officials said.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the operation was carried out in response to “repeated attacks by the Houthi terror regime against the State of Israel and its citizens, including the launching of surface-to-surface missiles and UAVs toward Israeli territory.”
An Israeli defense official told The Times of Israel the strike was launched from Navy missile boats.
Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV said the strike damaged generators at the Haziz power plant and ignited a fire that was later contained.

This was only the second known Israeli naval strike in Yemen, following a June attack on the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah.
The Iran-aligned Houthis began targeting Israel and Red Sea shipping in November 2023. Since March, after the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, they have launched 69 ballistic missiles and 22 drones at Israel, several of which were intercepted.
