Bapco, situated on the island of Sitra along Bahrain’s east coast just south of Manama, is among the oldest and most strategically important energy sites in the Persian Gulf. Established in 1929, Bapco discovered the Gulf’s first oil field on the Arabian side outside Iran in 1932 and built the region’s first refinery in 1936.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior said in a Thursday post on X that Iranian missiles also struck two hotels and a residential building in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, causing property damage but no injuries.
