Iran launched missiles at Israel on Sunday in the first direct Iranian bombardment since a fragile ceasefire took effect in April.
Air raid sirens sounded across parts of northern Israel as missiles were fired from Iran. The Israeli military said its air defense systems intercepted the incoming projectiles, and no immediate casualties were reported.

The attack came hours after Israel struck a Hezbollah command center in Beirut, killing at least two people. According to sources cited by Axios, Israel notified the Trump administration before carrying out the strike.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the attack and threatened broader retaliation if Israeli operations in Lebanon continued. “Tonight’s operation was merely a warning announcement, and if aggressions are repeated, the responses will be broader and will include all American-Zionist targets in the region,” the IRGC said, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.
In retaliation, Israel said it struck military targets in western and central Iran on Sunday. “A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) wrote on X. No further details were provided on casualties or the exact locations of the strikes.

The missile exchanges between Iran and Israel came days after Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire that called for Iranian-linked Hezbollah to halt attacks and withdraw operatives from areas south of the Litani River. Hezbollah rejected the agreement.
The ceasefire followed a U.S. request for Israel and Hezbollah to halt hostilities in Lebanon after Iran suspended peace talks with Washington over Israeli strikes in the country. A full ceasefire in Lebanon is among the key demands Iranian officials have raised in negotiations with the Trump administration aimed at reaching an agreement to end the war.
Israel’s retaliation to the Iranian strike came hours after President Donald Trump told Israel not to respond to the recent attack, saying additional military action could undermine ongoing negotiations.
“The Iranian strikes didn’t hurt anybody. Hopefully Israel is not going to retaliate,” Trump told the Axios. “If Bibi (Netanyahu) strikes them back, it’s just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or the last 3,000 years.”
Trump also said the U.S. was nearing an agreement with Iran and cautioned that escalating tensions could jeopardize diplomatic progress.
“We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don’t want it to blow up because of what is happening now,” he said. “Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike, and Iran had its strike. We don’t need another one.”
