Israeli airstrikes killed at least 12 people across the Gaza Strip over two days. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of a Hamas operative involved in the October 7, 2023, abduction of Israeli soldiers and a Hamas sniper battalion commander.
A drone strike Tuesday hit a Hamas military security office in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing six police officers and a civilian woman, Gaza’s Interior Ministry said.
The ministry added that the security chief, Col. Mohammed Marwan Salem, was among the dead. Witnesses told the BBC an Israeli drone fired four missiles at the post near a busy local market.

The IDF confirmed it killed Hussam al-Shafie, a member of Hamas’s Eastern Khan Younis Battalion, in a strike in southern Gaza on Tuesday. Al-Shafie raided Kibbutz Nirim on October 7 and helped abduct the bodies of Col. Asaf Hamami, the senior-most Israeli officer taken hostage that day, along with two soldiers.
The IDF also confirmed the elimination of Omar Ahmed Abu Qassem, a Hamas sniper battalion commander. He had been working to rebuild Hamas’s military arm in violation of the ceasefire.
On Wednesday, three family members were killed in a strike on a house in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, Al-Aqsa Hospital officials said. Nasser Hospital reported that a man also died the previous day in a strike at a tent camp in Khan Younis.
The strikes continue at near-daily frequency despite the months-old ceasefire. On Wednesday, Morocco signed an agreement to join the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza, committing senior officers to the ISF joint command. Hamas separately concluded another round of truce talks in Cairo under U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
