A drone launched from Yemen struck Ramon International Airport in Israel on Sunday, injuring two people and briefly halting air traffic in southern Israel, officials said.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike on the arrivals hall, which blew out windows and sent travelers to shelter. A 63-year-old man was wounded by shrapnel, and a 52-year-old woman was injured in a fall, according to Israeli rescue services.

A spokesperson for the Israel Airports Authority said the southern airspace over Ramon Airport was closed following the incident but reopened after roughly 90 minutes.
The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel movement in Yemen, claimed responsibility. “A drone targeted Ramon Airport, which, by Allah’s grace, directly hit the airport and caused the airport to shut down and halt air traffic,” Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement.
Saree said the strike was part of a broader operation against southern Israel and warned that airports would be “continuously targeted.”
The attack came days after an Israeli air raid in Sana’a killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other senior officials.
On Monday, the Houthis struck an Israeli oil tanker in the Red Sea as hundreds of Yemenis mourned al-Rahawi.
