The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is set to assess the Pentagon’s newly revamped Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence Adoption Strategy in early 2024. This review comes after the GAO made seven recommendations in a 2022 report, urging the Defense Department (DOD) to enhance its approach to AI adoption. As of November 2023, the DOD had not fully implemented any of these recommendations, leading the GAO to emphasize the importance of providing Congress and DOD decision-makers with complete information about the DOD’s AI activities and investments. The forthcoming analysis of the DOD’s updated AI adoption strategy will impact the status of these open recommendations.
