In early 2024, government oversight officials from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) are set to meet with multiple Defense Department teams to formally assess the agency’s new Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence Adoption Strategy. This evaluation aims to determine whether the strategy aligns with the recommendations made by the GAO in a March 2022 report. The GAO had urged the DOD to enhance its frameworks and approaches for integrating AI technology. Currently, none of the seven recommendations from the GAO’s 2022 report have been fully implemented, highlighting the need for closer scrutiny of the Pentagon’s AI strategy.
