Two U.S. Army special operations soldiers, Staff Sgt. Travis Rahmer and Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Wallen, were arrested at Fort Liberty, North Carolina for drug possession. This action is a part of a broader Army investigation into drug trafficking that began in January 2023. Both soldiers have been charged with possession of controlled substances, and the arrests highlight the Army’s commitment to tackling drug-related issues within its ranks.

Key Points:

  1. The arrests occurred at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation initiated by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division in January 2023.
  2. Staff Sgt. Travis Rahmer and Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Wallen, affiliated with the 1st Special Forces Command, are charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and simple possession of a Schedule II substance.
  3. Maj. Russell Gordon, spokesperson for the 1st Special Forces Command, stated that while the soldiers are innocent until proven guilty, the arrests underscore the Army’s dedication to accountability and reducing drug-related crime.
  4. Rahmer, a psychological operations specialist from Seaside, California, joined the Army in 2011 and is currently with the 4th Psychological Operations Group.
  5. Wallen, a Special Forces communication sergeant from Fayetteville, North Carolina, joined the Army in 2004 and has been with the 3rd Special Forces Group since 2021.
