A U.S.-supplied M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) operated by Ukraine has been visually confirmed destroyed for the first time, near the village of Nikanorovka in Donetsk. The strike on the HIMARS was reportedly carried out by a Russian Iskander ballistic missile.
Prior to this incident, there had been reports of two HIMARS systems being damaged and sent back to the United States for repairs at Harrisburg International Airport. This marks a significant event as it is the first visually confirmed loss of such a system since its deployment in the conflict, despite the HIMARS playing a crucial role in Ukraine’s military operations. The use of advanced missile systems in this conflict underscores the escalating intensity and the high-tech nature of the warfare involved.
After a 21 month run, a 🇺🇦 M142 HIMARS has finally been destroyed (on video).
While 2 have been damaged previously, these systems have arguably made a gigantic difference in the war against the Russian invaders. pic.twitter.com/U6Xd8dSJ5d
