Four Israeli soldiers were killed and six others wounded on Saturday during combat operations in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed.
The soldiers were struck by an explosive device planted by Hamas militants, who also opened fire during the attack.
The soldiers killed in the incident were identified as Sergeant Major (res.) Alexander Fedorenko, 37, from Bat Yam; Staff Sergeant Danila Diakov, 21, from Ma’ale Adumim; Sergeant Yahav Maayan, 19, from Modi’in; and Sergeant Eliav Astuker, 19, from Ashdod.
Two of the six wounded soldiers are in serious condition.
The attack occurred while the soldiers were traveling in a convoy along a logistical route previously cleared for operations. Hamas militants reportedly placed the explosive device earlier in the week, using poor weather conditions to avoid detection.
The IDF has intensified its offensive in northern Gaza, focusing on areas like Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Beit Lahiya. Hamas has shifted to guerrilla tactics, relying on explosive devices, anti-tank missiles, and ambushes to target Israeli forces.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu honored the fallen soldiers. “They fell protecting the homeland in battles in the northern Gaza Strip, in a war for our existence and security. Their heroism and bravery will be etched in our hearts forever,” he said.
