SOFX exists to inform, connect, and equip the global special operations community and defense-minded audience with news and analysis that matters. We cover armed conflict, military technology, geopolitical developments, and international security affairs with a commitment to accuracy, speed, and operational relevance.
We serve a readership of active-duty and veteran special operations personnel, defense professionals, intelligence practitioners, and engaged citizens who need reliable, timely information about the threats and challenges facing the free world. Our goal is to cut through the noise and deliver content that is both difficult to find and essential to understand.
SOFX produces a combination of written articles and curated aggregation:
Accuracy. We verify information before publishing. When reporting on developing or unconfirmed events, we clearly label claims as alleged, unverified, or developing. If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently.
Apolitical reporting. SOFX does not endorse political parties, candidates, or partisan positions. We report on policy, legislation, and government actions as they relate to defense and national security without advocating for a political side. Our audience spans the political spectrum, and we respect that by keeping our reporting focused on facts rather than opinion-driven framing.
Source attribution. We cite our sources. When we aggregate or reference reporting from other outlets, we name the source, link to the original article, and clearly distinguish between our own reporting and content sourced from others. When citing unnamed or anonymous sources, we provide as much context as possible about why the source requested anonymity and what position they are in to know the information.
Objectivity. We present facts and let our readers draw their own conclusions. We strive for balanced coverage and avoid sensationalism, clickbait, and agenda-driven framing. Where a story involves competing claims, we present the relevant perspectives without endorsing one over another.
Relevance. Everything we publish must be relevant to our core audience. We do not chase traffic with off-topic content. If it does not matter to the defense, special operations, or national security community, it does not belong on SOFX.
Operational security. We take OPSEC seriously. We do not publish information that could endanger active operations, compromise the identity of personnel in sensitive roles, or provide actionable intelligence to adversaries. When in doubt, we err on the side of caution.
Ethical standards. We maintain strict adherence to journalistic standards of integrity, accuracy, and fairness. We do not publish content that is defamatory, discriminatory, or intended to incite violence or hatred. We do not fabricate quotes, sources, or events.
Independence. Our editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, and commercial partners. Sponsored content and paid placements are always clearly labeled and separated from editorial content. Advertising relationships do not influence what we cover or how we cover it.
Transparency. We are transparent about our editorial process, funding model, and any potential conflicts of interest. We clearly identify sponsored content, affiliate relationships, and partnerships. If a correction or update is made to a published article, we note the change.
When we identify an error in a published article, whether through our own review or reader feedback, we correct it as quickly as possible. Corrections are usually mentioned in our daily newsletters, or at the bottom or top of an article. If the error is significant enough to alter the meaning or conclusions of the article, we will note the correction prominently at the top of the piece.
If you believe we have published inaccurate information, please contact us at [email protected].
We actively screen out content that is overtly false, misleading, or driven by partisan agendas. When curating aggregated content, we evaluate sources for credibility, track record, and editorial standards. We do not knowingly link to or amplify disinformation, propaganda, or fabricated reporting.
SOFX operates with a small, dedicated editorial staff: one managing editor who also serves as the newsletter editor, one assistant editor, one staff writer, and one website technician. We are a lean operation, and we are upfront about that. We strive to ensure that our output is as thorough and accurate as possible within our resources.
By adhering to these principles, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against evil and the prevention of suffering, and to provide our readers with a comprehensive and reliable source of information they can trust.
