Three Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed and several wounded in a barrage of rockets fired by Hamas towards the Kerem Shalom crossing. The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon and was executed from the Rafah area. The soldiers killed were identified as St.-Sgt. Ruben Marc Mordechai Assouline, St.-Sgt. Ido Testa, and St.-Sgt. Tal Shavit, members of the Shaked Battalion in the Givati Brigade and the 931st Battalion in the Nahal Brigade, respectively.

Hamas’ attack on the Kerem Shalom Crossing for humanitarian aid claimed the lives of three IDF soldiers.

Following the attack, the IDF closed the Kerem Shalom crossing, a crucial point for humanitarian aid into Gaza, disrupting the delivery of essential supplies. The closure is reportedly a direct consequence of the security threat posed by the rocket fire. Soroka Medical Center reported receiving ten individuals injured in the attack, with conditions ranging from serious to light.

Hamas, through its Al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for targeting the area with 114 mm short-range “Rajoum” rockets. In retaliation, the Israeli Air Force conducted several airstrikes in the Rafah area targeting Hamas command centers and the rocket launch sites.

The impact of this attack extends beyond immediate casualties and disrupts humanitarian efforts critically needed in Gaza. The incident has also cast uncertainty on the future operations in the area, particularly regarding the planned Israeli actions in Rafah and the ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire.
