A rooftop gunman opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas on Wednesday, killing one detainee and injuring two others before taking his own life, authorities said.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, was on a nearby rooftop when he “fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot.”
Three detainees were shot, leaving one dead and two in critical condition, DHS said. One of the wounded detainees is a Mexican national, Mexico’s foreign ministry confirmed. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The FBI is now investigating the motive behind the attack, which it described “as an act of targeted violence.”
FBI Director Kash Patel described the shooting as politically motivated, noting that investigators found unused ammunition inscribed with anti-ICE messages, including one casing marked “anti-ICE.”
This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.

“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not isolated incidents,” Patel said, citing a July ambush at a separate ICE facility in Prairieland, Texas, where officers were targeted.
“It has to end, and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice,” Patel added.

There was no mention of an “AR assault” gun used, so not a worthy “news” story…
