A recent proposal has outlined the possible creation of a fourth DoD military service academy, named the Frontier Academy, which would be located at The Presidio in San Francisco, California.
The academy would reportedly focus on preparing officers for emerging fields in military operations, particularly in space, robotics, and cyber warfare. The proposal which was initially shared by Suzanne Xie on X (formerly Twitter) has received staggering attention online, including from Elon Musk, but likely remains conceptual. SOFX has not found any further information confirming the legitimacy of the proposal.
This is a plan for the 4th Department of Defense academy at the Presidio. The Frontier Academy will have 3 dedicated colleges for Space, Cyber, and Robotics.
I think this will be great for the tech ecosystem and the country. 🇺🇸💪

The academy would reportedly consist of three specialized colleges each named after a figure associated with science and technology.
The School of Space, Interplanetary, and Celestial Exploration (SPICE) would be housed in Heinlein Hall, named after science fiction writer and Naval Academy graduate Robert Heinlein, and would focus on military space operations, satellite warfare, and extraterrestrial defense strategies.

The School of Robotics and Autonomous Systems would be located in Asimov Hall, named after Isaac Asimov, and would train officers in AI-driven warfare, battlefield robotics, and autonomous weapons systems.

In addition to the academy, the proposal includes the establishment of Frontier High School, a federally funded preparatory institution focused on STEM education, national security, and military discipline. Designed to serve as a pipeline for students interested in service academies, ROTC programs, and defense careers, the high school would provide a curriculum emphasizing space, robotics, and cyber operation.
