Photos circulating on Chinese social media appear to show China’s first manned tiltrotor aircraft during its maiden flight.
The origin and date of the images remain unclear, though they only recently surfaced on social media. One photo shows the tiltrotor inside a hangar, with a second prototype visible behind it.

Technical specifications have not been disclosed, but The War Zone notes that the aircraft’s overall appearance is closer to the Leonardo AW609, while its design resembles the U.S. Bell V-280 Valor.
According to Defence Blog, the prototype features a straight wing with a driveshaft linking both rotors, allowing one engine to power the aircraft if the other fails. It also has retractable landing gear and a T-tail configuration.
“The tiltrotor’s layout underscores Beijing’s interest in combining the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities of helicopters with the speed and range of fixed-wing aircraft,” it added.
Analysts noted the platform could expand the People’s Liberation Army’s capabilities in long-range assault, rapid transport, and maritime missions.
