China has introduced a new radar system, the JY-27V, which it claims can detect advanced U.S. stealth aircraft like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

The system was unveiled at the 11th World Radar Expo, recently held in Hefei, Anhui Province.

According to the South China Morning Post, the JY-27V is a mobile radar that can be mounted on a military truck and folded up for quick deployment and evacuation.

It operates in the very high frequency (VHF) band using an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) antenna. This setup enables swift electronic scanning without mechanical movement, improving its capability to detect stealth aircraft like the U.S. F-22 and F-35 jets.

Developed by the state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), the radar not only locates “extremely stealthy targets,” according to CETC, but also guides air defense systems for precision strikes.

Defense news outlet The National Interest remarked that China’s use of AESA and VHF systems enables detection of stealth aircraft at greater distances. Additionally, the JY-27V’s modular design offers greater deployment flexibility in geographically constrained areas such as the Taiwan Strait.

Besides China, Russia also possesses advanced early warning radars like the Nebo-M, which can detect the F-35, and the Rezonans-NE radar, which is capable of tracking both the F-35 and the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.
