Ukrainian soldiers are resisting new Russian attacks in the ongoing war for the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, while the US and EU have pledged billions of dollars worth of weapons to assist Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The battle for the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut between Ukrainian and Russian forces continues, with Ukrainian forces repelling fresh Russian attacks. The Russian forces launched 69 attacks in the past 24 hours on Bakhmut and nearby locations. Despite heavy casualties and infrastructure damage, the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, Hanna Malyar, said the defense of Bakhmut is holding thanks to the courage and heroism of soldiers and the skillful leadership of officers. The head of Russia’s Wagner mercenary group claimed that his forces controlled around 70% of Bakhmut and appealed for equipment necessary to rebuff a Ukrainian counteroffensive expected in late March or April. The European Union and the United States pledged to supply Ukraine with 2 billion euros and $350 million worth of ammunition, respectively, to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
