A gunman opened fire outside a crowded bar in downtown Austin early Sunday, killing two people and injuring at least 14 others before being shot dead by police.
Federal authorities are investigating whether the attack may be linked to terrorism or recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.

According to Austin police, the shooting took place just before 2 a.m. outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on West Sixth Street, a popular nightlife area near the University of Texas-Austin campus.
Police said the shooter, identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal, drove a large SUV around the block several times before stopping with hazard lights on and opening fire into the crowd from outside the bar. Officers stationed nearby quickly returned fire, killing him.
Fourteen victims were taken to nearby hospitals, and two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Three of those hospitalized remain in critical condition, police said.
According to law enforcement sources cited by The New York Post, a Quran was found inside Diagne’s vehicle, and he may have been wearing clothing displaying Iranian symbols.
Diagne, who had a criminal record in both New York and Texas, immigrated to the United States in 2000 and became a naturalized citizen in 2013.
Austin police and federal agents continue investigating the Sixth Street attack to determine Diagne’s motive and possible affiliations.
