Russia’s Foreign Intelligence has claimed that American private military companies (PMCs), under the guidance of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are actively recruiting members of Mexican and Colombian drug cartels who are currently serving sentences in American prisons. These individuals are purportedly being enlisted to join the conflict in Ukraine on behalf of the Ukrainian government. According to the SVR’s press bureau, inmates who agree to undertake this mission are allegedly offered full amnesty, with the underlying expectation that they may not return from the battlefield.
The SVR’s statement suggests that the first contingent of these recruited individuals, described as a criminal gang consisting of several hundred Mexicans and Colombians, is expected to be deployed to the combat zone by the upcoming summer. The initiative, if deemed successful, could potentially expand to include individuals from other countries experiencing significant crime rates.
