On June 6, 2024, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an airstrike in the southern Lebanese town of Wadi Jilo, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. This action comes amid escalating cross-border hostilities between Israel and the Hezbollah terror group. Maj. Gen. This escalation follows a series of drone attacks by Hezbollah, including one on the northern Israeli town of Hurfeish, which resulted in the death of a reservist and injuries to ten others. On Thursday, the city of Kiryat Shmona was also impacted by an attack, causing property damage but no injuries. The IDF has been responding to these provocations with counterstrikes targeting Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the attacks, which have included explosive-laden drones targeting civilian areas and military posts. The IDF reported significant damage to Hezbollah’s terror infrastructure, with approximately 420 terrorists and senior operatives eliminated since October. The military has been preparing for a potential broader campaign against Hezbollah, with training exercises and strategic assessments ongoing.

The conflict has had a severe impact on northern Israeli communities, with widespread property damage and persistent fires exacerbating the situation. The Israeli government faces increasing pressure to take stronger action against Hezbollah to ensure the safety of its northern residents. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts by the US and France aim to de-escalate the situation, though progress remains slow.
As tensions rise, the IDF continues to target Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah’s deputy chief, Sheikh Naim Qassem, warned that any Israeli expansion of the conflict would be met with severe retaliation.Â
