The Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile targeting Israel on Monday.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces, (IDF) its air-defense systems intercepted the missile, launched from Yemen, before it could reach Israeli territory. No casualties or damage were reported.
The missile was reportedly aimed at a “vital target” in the Tel Aviv area. Although the sirens were not activated in Tel Aviv, they were activated in multiple areas, including the West Bank, the Jordan Valley, and regions near Beit Shean and Afula, due to concerns about falling debris.
The missile launch follows a significant joint military operation conducted by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel against the Houthis on Friday.
The operation, the largest of its kind since the Yemen conflict began, was intended to deter further Houthi aggression.
The Houthis’ missile launch also comes amid broader regional tensions, with the group increasingly positioning itself as an extension of Iranian influence. Iran has been accused of providing financial and military support to the Houthis, enabling them to carry out such long-range attacks.
