Iraqi security forces have announced the death of Abu Zainab, a senior member of the Islamic State (ISIS), in the Syrian city of Raqqa. The operation, conducted in cooperation with U.S.-led coalition forces, was confirmed by the Iraqi National Security Service on Tuesday. Abu Zainab, an Iraqi national, was known for orchestrating attacks against Iraqi government forces.
The Iraqi National Security Service issued a statement saying that Abu Zainab was eliminated “during the past days” in Raqqa. This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Iraqi security forces, in collaboration with the U.S.-led coalition and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, to combat the remnants of ISIS in the region.

Although ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in 2017, the group continues to carry out attacks against Iraqi security forces, including the police, army, and state paramilitary units. The elimination of Abu Zainab marks a significant blow to ISIS’s operational capabilities in the region.
The U.S.-led coalition, which has been supporting Iraqi and Kurdish forces in the fight against ISIS, did not provide a comment on the operation. The coalition’s continued efforts are crucial in preventing the resurgence of ISIS in both Iraq and Syria.
