The Pentagon ordered USS Nimitz home last week following the lengthy deployment. However, the U.S. Navy has abruptly changed and canceled the return of the aircraft carrier stationed in the Persian Gulf. Pentagon was concerned that Iran might take revenge for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, whom U.S. forces killed via drone strike in January 2020. Secretary of Defense Chris Mille confirmed in a statement that it will remain on station in the U.S. Central Command area of operations.
