With remote work becoming more widespread, a number of employees are secretly working multiple full-time jobs simultaneously.
While this can be problematic due to the workload involved, many employees have found ways to hide their second job from their first employer. Some have even started a subreddit called “Overemployed” to discuss their experiences. Employers may object to employees taking on multiple jobs, as they expect to have their employees’ full attention during work hours. However, if the employee is performing well, meeting goals, and available when needed, is it really such a problem? Managers should pay close attention to their employees’ performance and address any issues, but if there aren’t any problems, maybe it’s time to rethink the instinctive horror of someone secretly working a second job during their work hours for the first. The root of the issue may be the cost of living, which has increased so much that some employees feel they need multiple jobs to make ends meet.
