The United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) shares a Maryland headquarters with the National Security Agency (NSA). They conduct worldwide operations against terrorists and nations alike (North Korea, Iran, and Russia). The group consists of many intelligence, technical, and informatics specialists in addition to cyber troops. The United States Cyber Command employs over 5,000 individuals. It is believed that around 15 percent of cyber troops are civilians or reserve operators. Civilian cyber workers are advantageous since they possess knowledge and training from some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions and corporations. Over the last decade, USCYBERCOM has conducted several operations, many of which we are probably unaware of. ISIS was the target of one of the most effective operations performed by USCYBERCOM. JTF-Ares contributed significantly to the defeat of ISIS by weakening their accounts, interrupting their cyber activities, and denying them internet access. In 2020, the Election Security Group (ESG) was established to protect midterm elections.
