On Wednesday, representatives from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps special operations headquarters testified before a Senate panel. Ukraine ushers in a “fifth modern age” of special operations, Naval Special Warfare Commander Rear Adm. Hugh Howard said. He added that US special operations are at an “inflection point on the domestic front.” Sen. Jon Ernst (R-IA) said Special Operations Command’s (SOCOM) fiscal 2023 budget proposal is $1.3 billion less than its fiscal year 2020 budget. Additionally, SOCOM supplied a list of unfulfilled objectives totaling $650 million. Special operators are gaining an understanding of the future non-counterterrorism battlefield and how to prepare for it.
