VA reaching out to veterans, builders in effort to award more adapted housing grants | Military Times

Must Read

Last fiscal year, the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded almost 2,300 Specially Adapted Housing awards. Officials want to increase awareness of the grant to a number of veterans and housebuilders. Installation of ramps, lowered cabinetry, walk-in showers, and other similar accessories may be covered under the grant. The awards’ total value may reach $100,000. In the fiscal year 2021, VA SAH awards totaled around $150 million, with the average project lasting approximately 250 days. In certain instances, additional design planning and specialized orders are necessary to meet construction objectives. VA estimates that up to 5,000 veterans may be eligible for the funds yearly, but generally, fewer than half apply.
