US Africa Command announced in a statement that a military attack on Friday (local time) near the central Somali town of Galcad, where Somalia’s military was engaged in fierce combat, killed about 30 Islamist Al Shabaab members, according to CNN.
The attack took place close to Galcad, roughly 260 kilometers northeast of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Due to the remote location, US Africa Command determined that no people were hurt or killed. Since President Joe Biden granted the Pentagon’s request to relocate US forces there, the US has continued to help the Somali government. According to the statement, National Army personnel were “involved in heavy fighting following a complex, prolonged, aggressive offensive by more than 100 Al-Shabaab insurgents.”
