US special operators to test an X-wing-like loitering munition | Task and Purpose

The Defense Department plans on testing a brand new Israeli-made recoverable loitering munition that appears to have a great similarity to the Incom Corporation X-wing starfighter utilized by the Rebel Alliance in the Star Wars movie franchise.

Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD) of the U.S. military will use a version of the so-called “Point Blank” electro-optically guided missile that Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will develop and deliver for testing. The directorate informed our colleagues at The War Zone that the Pentagon’s Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate, which is in charge of creating new irregular warfare capabilities. It also stated that additional testing of the weapon’s lethal payload will take place.In fact, a recent Army request for information states that the conflict in Ukraine “has clearly demonstrated the ability of unmanned systems at increasingly lower echelons of employment to be highly effective in different roles.
