The April 7 incident was thought to have been carried out by one or more persons “deliberately placing explosive devices” at an ammo storing area and shower facilities on the site.
The US military claims that blasts on a site in eastern Syria earlier this month that wounded many US service personnel were not prompted by artillery or other forms of indirect fire, as previously reported. According to a statement released Thursday by Combined Joint Task Force – Inherent Resolve, the command that supervises US military operations against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq, the April 7 attack was conducted out by “intentional setup of high explosives” by one or more people at an ammunition holding area and shower site on the base. The facility, known as Green Village, suffered two rounds of indirect fire that hit two support structures, according to the command’s first report on April 7.
