US defense industry unprepared for a China fight, says report | Defense News

Must Read

According to a recent assessment by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the U.S. defense industrial base is not prepared for a conflict over Taiwan because it would run out of crucial long-range, precision-guided weapons in less than a week.

The think tank discovered that while U.S. military support to Ukraine has helped avoid a Russian triumph against the neighboring country, it has also reduced Pentagon stockpiles and demonstrated that the American defense industry cannot boom for a large battle. The report calls for Washington to reexamine its munitions needs and deepen its supplies as well as to remove regulatory barriers to manufacturing with and exporting to allies. It also highlights U.S. military aid to Ukraine and criticizes bureaucratic hurdles for defense contracting and American arms sales abroad.
