US Asks Tajikistan, Uzbekistan To Allow Military Bases For Special Ops In Afghanistan | Republic World

Must Read

The United States has been attempting to convince Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to allow them to set up bases within their borders for the purpose of operating in Afghanistan. The creation of the bases would allow closer reconnaissance and Over-the-Horizon strike operations. Under-secretary of Defense for Policy, Colin Kal, during a Senate Armed Service Committee hearing, hinted the US might bribe Tajik and Uzbek officials to move forward with the process.  Although Moscow is strongly opposed to an American presence in central Asia, the US is intent on regaining surveillance capabilities of potential terrorist threats.
