Urban Warfare Project Case Study Series: Case Study #4 Suez City | Colonel (CA) John Spencer, Major Jayson Geroux, Modern Warfare Institute at West Point

Must Read

The battle of Suez City was waged on October 24-25, 1973 during the Arab-Israeli War, commonly referred to as the Yom Kippur War. Suez City, on the Suez Gulf’s northern end, sits on the bank of the namesake canal’s southern entrance. Sub-units of Egyptian army were charged with defending the city from Israeli armored divisions intent on capturing the strategic area. History teaches us that most urban operations result in success on the attacker’s end, but this case study offers insight as to why that was not the case in Suez City.
