According to the Air Combat Command, an F-22 Raptor plunged at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in May due to a maintenance issue detected after it was washed. The maintenance error impacted the fighter’s control inputs, according to the command, while ACC refused to provide any information on what has happened that caused the crash on May 15, 2020, such as how the aircraft’s cleaning was linked to the repair problem. The pilot, posted to the 325th Fighter Wing’s 43rd Fighter Squadron, started taking off from Eglin that morning before noting an alert about the flight control system, according to Air Combat Command. The pilot decided to pursue the flight but soon found himself unable to maintain control of the aircraft.
