The Crossroads of Special Operations
Unbundling of Truth – How Big Tech Gaslights at Scale | Sam Havelock
On Friday, April 2nd we summarized and released a synopsis of an article for our SOFX Newsletter subscribers that was originally entitled “Diversity Chief at US Special Operations Command reassigned during probe into social media posts” by the source (****). We then further disseminated our synopsis on various social media channels.
Shortly after posting on Instagram, the SOFX post was labeled “fake news,” specifically, “false information.” The post was covered with a warning stating the material had been reviewed by independent fact-checkers and was deemed false.
I then directed my media team to conducted primary research by examining SOCOM Public Affairs Office information releases and other independent news sources to ensure the source article and our summary of it was factually correct.
We found the news reporting and the source article to be unequivocally accurate and factual. This information was confirmed and reported by numerous media companies to include The Hill, Military.com, CNN, and Fox News.
Gaslighting is a “form of psychological manipulation in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment.” If you do an internet search for gaslighting, over half the results are articles diving into the psychological abuse of gaslighting and the warning signs associated with this behavior.
Gaslighting is the most appropriate term for what Big Tech Social Media companies have been doing to population on a global scale. When you control what people get to see and arbitrarily label fact and fiction, you essentially get to craft your own narrative for what constitutes the Truth. Companies that masquerade as media companies without conforming to journalistic standards are a fraud.
We have seen clear and unambiguous examples of how big tech abuses the power of distribution to advance their corporate agenda. Democracy requires free speech and access to the truth. When big tech bends reality to fit their agenda we need to call a spade a spade and realize they are enemies of Democracy. I remember taking an oath to support and defend The Constitution of The United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. It’s probably time they need to be regulated. For the good of a Nation.
