UN human rights expert Yao Agbetse has criticized the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), a major rebel group in the Central African Republic, as “enemies of peace” following an attack on a Central African Armed Forces base earlier this month.
The attack resulted in several deaths and the capture of around 20 Central African soldiers. Agbetse called for the release of the prisoners and for humanitarian actors and human rights organizations to be granted access to them. He urged the CPC to surrender its weapons and join conflict resolution frameworks, as well as comply with the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war. Agbetse reminded the CPC that it would eventually be held accountable for its actions in national and international courts
