An overnight Ukrainian drone attack ignited a fire at a Russian munitions depot in the Voronezh region near the Ukrainian border, officials from both nations confirmed on Sunday.
Regional Governor Alexander Gusev reported on Telegram that multiple drones were detected and neutralized by air defense systems in Voronezh. However, falling debris from the intercepted drones triggered a blaze at the depot in the Podgorensky district, roughly 50 miles from the Ukrainian border. The depot, located near the village of Sergeyevka, stored a variety of military ordnance including surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, tank shells, artillery shells, and ammunition.
The fire led to a series of detonations, although there were no reported injuries. Ukrainian defense sources confirmed the use of drones in the Voronezh attack, resulting in what they described as a “powerful” explosion. In addition to the Voronezh attack, Russian state media reported other recent drone strikes. In the Krasnodar region, debris from a downed drone ignited a fire at a fuel storage tank in Pavlov, while another fire broke out at an oil depot in Leningrad. A communications tower in the village of Eisk was also damaged by a drone.
