NATO’s two senior operational-level commanders are quite pleased with Norway’s handling of the issues of sharing a border with one of Russia’s most armed areas.
The attacks over the previous four weeks have resulted in Europe’s most heinous slaughter since World War II. While the Russian president maintains that one of his goals is to put NATO at bay, the Pasvik valley’s 200-kilometer border with the North Atlantic Alliance appears to be the nation’s most calm. Except for Norway, Moscow has been in conflict with all its European neighbors throughout history. Norway is one of NATO’s original twelve members. Norway is the only NATO member with a direct border with Russia, along with the Baltic States and Poland, which borders Kaliningrad.
