Masha Manini was only 22 years old as she walked out of the Tehran Subway. She was spotted by the Iranian Morality Police, enforcers of the Islamic dress and behavior rules. The Morality Police deemed her Hijab was out of place, showing just a few strands of hair. As a result she was detained in the back of a van and sent away to detention for re-education. Three days later she was dead, beaten to death by government enforcers. Young people all over Iran have exploded in rage, and have taken to the streets to express their contempt for the Regime. In circulating videos, women can be seen burning their headscarves, dancing bear headed in front of Riot police and chanting “Death to the Dictator” and “Death to the Headscarf.” Iranian Military and Riot Police have responded with force, killing over dozens of protesters with live rounds. Protesters responded violently as videos show protesters beating and igniting stray police men. Iran has enforced its customary internet blackouts in attempts to subdue protesters. In response, Biden has authorized technology companies to offer secure platforms inside Iran without the risk of violating United States sanctions that prevent doing business with the country.
