With such a distinguished career, many expected Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller to be rewarded with stars. However, one clip shared on social media on Aug. 26, 2021, in the aftermath of a fatal suicide attack at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport that killed 11 Marines, one sailor, and one soldier essentially ended his 17-year career. A uniformed Scheller asked for responsibility and expressed his “contempt” for individuals in government and army who made choices during the US pullout from Afghanistan and the day’s fatal consequence in a four-minute and 45-second video shared to Facebook and LinkedIn. He was fired from his position as battalion commander of the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, just one day later.
