It’s understandably difficult to raise awareness of the danger posed by the Taliban’s campaign to transform Afghanistan into a hermit kingdom, where its leaders can shield themselves from outside pressure or internal dissent and from which no amount of distance or diversion will provide relief.
This is especially true given the righteous focus on Ukraine. Despite promises from two U.S. administrations that the Taliban would have no choice but to cooperate with the rest of the world in a new beginning, it is not unexpected that they have adhered to a historically reliable religious code. With the Taliban back in power, the landscape of terrorism has been converted into a veritable commercial jihadist enterprise, empowering terror organizations with which it feels kinship and a duty to some extent due to years of cooperation.
