The Navy has had severe issues stemming from a jet fuel leak at a storage facility in Honolulu. The Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility reportedly sprung a leak contaminating the water for those at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The Navy has said publicly they first received reports of contaminated water on Nov. 28th but on Nov. 21st they issued a press release saying they were investigating a leak at Red Hill and that it did not appear to affect the local aquifer or drinking water. Families on the island report feeling symptoms months earlier though. One Navy official told the Washington Post that he believed the contamination originated during a leak in May that the Navy failed to disclose how serious it was.
