The Islamic State is Cautiously Optimistic About a New Turkish Operation in Syria | War on The Rocks

Islamic State adherents have been cautiously optimistic about the advantages of a likely Turkish military assault in northeastern Syria on online forums during the past few weeks. 

Further Turkish assaults on the Syrian Democratic Forces could offer the group’s dispersed fighters a once-in-a-lifetime chance to rebuild their strength. A full-scale ground invasion, which Syrian Kurdish commanders claim would prohibit them from continuing their operations against the Islamic State, has also been regularly threatened by Ankara. Perhaps not unexpectedly, many who support the Islamic State in the area see the weakening of the Syrian Democratic Forces as a potential turning point. Even the Islamic State’s own official reporting indicates that recent months have not been promising for the group’s chances in Syria.
