The Changing Role of Special Operations Forces | Special Operations

General Richard Clark, commander of US Special Operations Command (SOCOM), and Christopher Maier, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, announced the release of a sixteen-page document outlining US Special Operations Forces’ “Vision and Strategy”. in April 2022.  

This followed the introduction of the 2022 National Defense Strategy (NDS) by the Department of Defense (DOD). There is much more to the SOCOM vision and strategy for the future of SOF in the United States military. Special operations forces, by nature, have always been dynamic and adaptive, and these attributes will keep them relevant and at the tip of the spear for years to come.
