The Army’s legendary Little Bird might be flying away for good | Popular Mechanics

Must Read

In the future, the US Army’s exclusive fleet of A/MH-6 “Little Bird” special operations helicopters may be replaced with civilian helicopters. The Little Birds, which the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment has operated for almost 40 years, could be replaced by the winner of a forthcoming armed reconnaissance helicopter challenge. What’s the catch? Only one of the two opposing helicopters can transport forces, which is a critical need for the successor of the Little Bird. According to reports, if Raider X wins the FARA challenge, it will replace the A/MH-6 fleet, but due to a lack of passenger room, the Army will have to look elsewhere if Invictus wins.
