Reports describe mass desertions and fratricide on the front lines, and Russian generals continue to die. In 2018, a four-hour battle in Syria between Russian and American forces demonstrated cracks in Russia’s military might, as a small force of American commandos was able to defeat a much larger enemy force. This victory worked as a deterrent a month later when a similar enemy force began a buildup near American forces.
