After ten years away from the Marine Corps, Sgt. William Treseder learned about the Marine Innovation Outfit, a Reserve unit that aims to connect the Corps with the newest in innovation as it modernizes the force.
After serving on active service, Treseder earned a degree from Stanford University, worked for energy companies, and co-founded BMNT, a business that aids Silicon Valley technology adoption by U.S. national security organizations. He believed that his time in the Marine Corps had come to an end. At the Marine Innovation Unit’s yearly training in Quantico, Virginia, he was intrigued by the several chats he had with his randomly chosen roommate, a Reserve major who is also the chief financial officer of a business in space technology. The major was modest and interested in Treseder’s work despite his impressive experience and credentials, Treseder said.
