How the United States’ Special Forces can ASSIST Taiwan in the case of a Chinese invasion
For decades, China has pledged to absorb Taiwan, a self-governing island that Beijing views as a renegade province. Taiwan’s military has increased its money and training to strengthen its capabilities to repel a Chinese attack. If China invaded Taiwan, it would meet a situation in which advanced weaponry would be ineffective: urban warfare. A US Special Forces officer told Insider that urban combat is an equalizer. Defense’s natural advantages are amplified in an urban context, he said.
Success in such a situation requires understanding small-unit tactics and close-quarters warfare. If China attacked Taiwan, it would have to ensure that it could overwhelm the defenders in a matter of days or impose a long-term embargo.
